December Ipsy Bag

December 15, 2014

My last Ipsy Bag was a major let down, which you can read about here. This month was going to be the last chance I gave Ipsy- and I am relieved to say I received a really decent bag. I’m still torn, as only 2/5 Ipsy Bags have been worth the subscription and anticipation. Do you all think that’s worth it? I still don’t know.

Also, I have been battling a cold, and I am still enduring some back pain. I am sorry my posts lately have been all product reviews without many pictorials. I do hope that my reviews have at least been helpful in some way. I’m really hopeful to feel better after the holidays and get some pictorials up for you all. That being said, I’d love some comments with requests!

Alright, here’s my bag!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Action Mascara: I had never tried Tarte mascaras before this sample, and I have to say I love it. I will likely purchase this when I run out. This mascara not only makes my lashes look longer, but also makes them appear as though I curl them (I never curl my lashes… because I’m lazy). I also love that this mascara is infused with olive esters to condition lashes.

Nourish Organic Eye Cream: I have a very sensitive eye area, so I wasn’t surprised that this made my skin burn a bit when applied. That being said, I do love that it is organic and cruelty free, and I think this is a great company. If you don’t have super sensitive skin, even to organic products, check this company out. Their products are made with powerful antioxidants and contain all natural formulas!

Cailyn Eye Polish in Orchid: I’d never heard of this brand before, but I am pleasantly surprised by this. When I saw I was receiving the shade “Orchid” for some reason I was thinking of a pale, purple-y color. This shade is more of a champagne color, which is one of my favorite colors to wear on my lids. This is a mineral eye shadow, it’s very pigmented, and it feels like silk. Check out their website, because they have some really great looking products!

NYX Butter Lip Balm in Parfait: I actually already had this lip balm! I have been slowly collecting all NYX lip products because they are the best in my opinion (especially for the price). These lip balms are soft, silky, actually hydrating (most tinted lip balms I’ve tried actually dry out my lips!), and provides a beautiful sheer tint of color.

Bumble & Bumble Repair Blow Dry: I treat my hair with the utmost respect, I really do. However, my hair has a mind of its own and loves to defy me… which is why I was ecstatic to receive this gem. My hair actually looks nourished for once in my life, and I do believe I’ll be getting the full sized bottle of this!

So that’s my bag! What did you get in yours this month? Remember, please leave me some requests for future makeup looks!

I have heard so many things about the Tarte mascara, it sounds incredible!

    • Reply Jenny December 15, 2014 at 11:05 am

You can get this same sample size at Sephora!

That mascara looks great! I subscribed to a BirchBox for a couple of months but then I realized it was not worth the money. I didn’t really use any of the samples and some were repeated. The Ipsy looks nice, but I think that if most months are a let down, then it isn’t worth it!

I agree! I keep hanging on hoping it will get better, though!

I am glad this bag has a more interesting content than the previous one. Maybe give it a go for another month or so and see if it comes above average :) I am very interested in the Bumble and Bumble Repair Blow dry. My hair are SO dry, I apply a bit of coconut oil every night to make look them fine. As you know, I love Tarte! I have the gold version of this mascara (lights, camera, flashes) and I love it! Totally worth buying the full size.

I think I will give it another month or so! If nothing else, I do at least get to switch out my lipstick bags each month, which is always fun, haha! I’m really loving the Tarte mascara, so I’ll definitely be buying the full-sized version.

I hope that you feel better soon Jenny, x. I received my Ipsy bag the other day as well, and received the majority of the same products. I had never tried the Tarte mascara before, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love when Ipsy throws in mascara, because I must admit I’m a bit of a hoarder of different mascaras. I am on the fence with my Ipsy bags as well, mainly because of the currency difference from the US to Canada, it makes the bag about $17 in total. I think I’ll keep it for a little while longer because just when I am about to cancel it there is something in it that makes me want to keep it.

Thank you, Becky! You’re always so kind. I can’t believe how expensive the ipsy bag is in Canada! Gosh. I think ipsy *knows* when we are getting fed up and they send us a really good bag to trick us! Haha. Maybe not. I suppose with the large amount of customers they have it must be hard to get it right for everyone each month.

So far ipsy bags are poking pretty good for this month. I’ve checked my Glam room and I am liking what I’m seeing so hopefully it’ll make up for the major letdown of last month’s bag.

I used to watch videos of people unboxing their ipsy bags on Youtube and was always so jealous! But I can see why you’re torn. For what I’ve been seeing online, the latest bags are not as good as they used to be. Still, this one was not too bad. I’d love to try that Tarte mascara. :) xx

I think they have so many customers now that it must be hard to keep up! It is a really good mascara!

I can’t wait to get my bag this month, should be arriving any day now. Hoping I get the Tarte mascara and the NYX balm, they sound divine!

You can check your glam bag on to see what you got before it arrives!

This one looks pretty good. I always seem to get so many nail polishes in my beauty box. I get shellac nails so I never use them. I have like 5 shades of purple nail polish

    • Reply Jenny December 16, 2014 at 12:45 pm

I’ve never received a nail polish in my bag! I used to get shellac done a lot, but I have fun painting my own nails too so I wouldn’t mind a nail polish in my bag ^_^

I am not subscribed to any box (yet), because for now I have got more than enough products to review already hoarded in my drawer.
The Tarte mascara is on my wishlist, but I will have to order it from the States, so I have been a little hesitant. A lot of hassle if I end up not liking it…

I think you would like it! That and Lorac products. One day when you get a big order together, get those and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

It’s so refreshing to see a post like this where you give an honest review. So many times it seems like bloggers only give you a positive review of a product leaving you to wonder if they are just getting paid to do so. I’ve always wondered about these subscription beauty boxes. I never signed up because I have so many unused bottles of hair and makeup stuff in my drawers already.

Trying to live a bit more simply! ;o)

Glad this month’s bag didn’t let you down! They included some of my fave brands- NYX, B&B, and Tarte! xo

  • Reply December 16, 2014 at 2:04 pm

This bag is not bad! I used to be subscribed to Birchbox but after a number of disappointing boxes, I cancelled. It was only ?$10 a month but the products were mostly samples and not even that many that I’d use.

    Feel better, Jenny! *hugs*

Oooo lots of goodies in this bag! Have you tried the glossybox before?

    • Reply Jenny December 16, 2014 at 4:43 pm

I have not tried the glossybox, though many people have suggested it! I’m going to have to look into it!

The eye polish looks gorgeous. Great post!

    Love that eye polish color!

Yay I’m glad you liked this months bag! Honestly if I only like 2 bags out of the 5 I received I would say “adios!” And subscribe to a new box and see how that one works out. (Says the girl who isn’t subscribed to any box so what do I know…lol!)

I need to get some Bumble and Bumble products and I really want the salt spray for summer!

Your blog is looking so festive with the Christmas pictures, can’t believe how quickly time has gone by!!!

Hi Jenny, thank you for sharing your Ipsy box. I subscribed to Birch Box last year, and was disappointed. I experienced the same thing you are with Ipsy. Only, maybe 3 or 4 of the boxes during the year were truly worth it. I cancelled at the beginning of this year, and haven’t really seen any other beauty subscription boxes that people are raving over. It is sad to say, but sometimes I would get better samples from Ulta or Sephora with just a small purchase. The one item that really stands out to me in this box is the Bumble and Bumble blow dry repair. I’ve never tried their products, but have always wanted to. Thanks again for the share. I hope you have a lovely day, and feel better very soon! XOXO Maria

Speaking of sensitive skin and eye areas, what do you recommend for eye makeup remover? What about general face cleansers? Anything specific for winter?

    Just curious :)

Great share love! I do need a good eye cream for night, and this post makes me eager to try the Nourish eye cream out! 😉 xo~ Lena
